NOVELTY - Composition comprises a phenalkamine (I). USE - The composition is useful in in various applications e.g. as water-proofing material for architecture, as coatings e.g. anti-corrosion coating, and in road paving and maintenance applications e.g. tack coats, fog seals, slurry seals and micro-surfacing. ADVANTAGE - The composition: improves fast curing properties and excellent flexibility; provides good compatibility with asphalt; and enhances mechanical strengths in road pavement application. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Composition comprises a phenalkamine of formula (I). X = H or OH; R1 = aliphatic chain with more than 8C; R2 = H, 1-10C alkyl, phenyl, or 5-6C cycloaliphatic group; R3, R4 = CH2CH2, CH2CH2CH2, or CH2CH2CH2CH2; and P, Q = integer. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing the composition comprising (I) comprising heating a polyamine having at least two primary amino groups and at least one oxyethylene moiety, an alkyl phenol, and at least one aldehyde to a temperature of 0-150 degrees C.
