NOVELTY - Preparing oxygen-containing functionalized graphene comprises (i) mixing strong oxidizing compound and graphite in a mass ratio of 1:2-10:1, placing in concentrated sulfuric acid, stirring in an ice bath for 3-24 hours, adding water, stirring at 20-40 degrees C for 2-16 hours, then stirring at 75-95 degrees C for 2-16 hours, adding hydrogen peroxide, repeatedly filtering using 5% dilute hydrochloric acid solution when solution turns golden yellow and drying to obtain solid graphite oxide; (ii) stripping the solid graphite oxide at 250-350 degrees C in air atmosphere for 10-30 minutes to obtain oxygen-containing functionalized graphene oxide; and (iii) heat treating the oxygen-containing functionalized graphene oxide at 500-1000 degrees C for 1-6 hours in an argon atmosphere. USE - The graphene is useful in field of electrochemical energy storage/conversion. ADVANTAGE - The graphene has high surface area and mesoporous structure.
