NOVELTY - Multilayer coating comprises at least two layers, where the two layers have different compositions, and at least one layer comprises a composition comprising graphene sheets and at least one binder. USE - The multilayer coating is useful to coat: on a surface of the article, which is in the form of printed electronic device or electroluminescent backplane; and a substrate (claimed). The multilayer coating is useful e.g.: in an article which is useful in applications requiring thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, static dissipativity, electromagnetic interference shielding properties including when these properties are needed along with properties e.g. barrier properties and moisture resistance; for passivation and corrosion protections of surfaces e.g. metal (e.g. steel and aluminum) surfaces, including exterior structures e.g. bridges and buildings; as UV radiation resistant coatings, abrasion resistant coatings, coatings having permeation resistance to liquids (e.g. hydrocarbon, alcohols and water) and/or gases, electrically conductive coatings, static dissipative coatings, and blast and impact resistant coatings; make fabrics and cloths having electrical conductivity (e.g. those used in electrically conductive protective clothing and equipment); in solar cell applications, solar energy capture applications, signage and flat panel displays; in flexible displays including light-emitting diode, organic light-emitting diode and polymer light-emitting diode displays; in backplanes and front-planes for displays, and in lighting including electroluminescent and organic LED lighting; in packaging and/or to make labels; in inventory control and anti-counterfeiting applications (e.g. pharmaceuticals) including package labels; to make smart packaging and labels (e.g. for marketing and advertisement, information gathering, inventory control and information display); to form a Faraday cage in packaging e.g. for electronic components; for electrical and electronic devices e.g. housings to provide electromagnetic shielding properties; in microdevices e.g. microelectromechanical systems to provide antistatic coatings; in the manufacture of housings, antennas and other components of portable electronic devices e.g. computers, cellular telephones, games, navigation systems, personal digital assistants, music players, games, calculators, radios, artificial paper and reading devices; to form three-dimensional printed prototypes; in integrated circuits, flexible printed circuit boards, transistors, field-effect transistors, microwave circuits, diffraction gratings, indicators, chipless tags (e.g. for theft deterrence from stores and libraries) in security and theft deterrence devices; in smart cards, sensors, personal digital assistants, global positioning system devices, wearable electronics; and in circuits in vehicles, medical devices, diagnostic devices and instruments. ADVANTAGE - The multilayer coating: has electrical conductivity of at least 10 (preferably 100) S/cm; and has good adhesion to a surface coupled with good conductivity properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) an article having a surface (12) coated with the multilayer coating (14); and (2) coating a substrate comprising applying two sequential coatings to a surface of the substrate, where the coatings have different composition and at least one of the coatings comprises a composition comprising graphene sheets and at least one binder.
