NOVELTY - The method involves flowing a graphene oxide composition comprising graphene oxide and a solvent, where the solvent has a boiling point higher than pure water, through a reaction chamber (112) under conditions to deoxygenate the graphene oxide and induce gelation to form a graphene gel (114) suspended in the solvent and flowing through the reaction chamber. USE - Method for synthesizing a graphene gel, which is useful as a water processible precursor to create bulk forms of graphene-based materials including fibers, films, foams, gels and densified solids. ADVANTAGE - The method synthesizes graphene gel, which has high single-layer yield and large lateral sizes, and provides graphene-based material having excellent chemical, mechanical and electrochemical properties.
