NOVELTY - The method involves performing the functionalization with a mixture of organic acids. The new functionalized graphene nanoplates are provided with a surface modification of 5-20% and excellent adsorption of uremic toxins. The latter characteristic is classified as a material suitable for use in several applications, and the use of applications is highlighted in the manufacture of membranes for hemodialysis. The evaluation of functionalized graphenes in the adsorption of urea is performed to removal percentages of 15-75% while the removal percentages is 30-50% in the adsorption of uric acid. USE - Method for obtaining functionalized graphene nanoplates (NGF) with organic acids using tip ultrasound for application in removal of uremic toxins. ADVANTAGE - The tip ultrasound is allowed to reduce the reaction time, and the amount of energy used and to achieve high production yields. The new method of graphene functionalization is considered environmentally friendly, uses water and organic acid mixture, and is economical and easy to implement on a large scale.
