NOVELTY - The layer (1) has a three-dimensional carbon structure (10) comprising a set of cavities without a binder. A set of silicon particles (20) is provided in the cavities. The carbon structure comprises one of graphene, a reduced graphene oxide and graphite. A volume of one of the silicon particles in a cavity (11) is about 30% to about 70% of a total volume of the cavity. One of the silicon particles comprises size of about 5 nm to about 30 mm. A cathode layer comprises planar size of about 1 mm to about 1 m. USE - Cathode layer for a lithium secondary battery (claimed) of a mobile electronic device. ADVANTAGE - The layer reduces or prevents durability degradation of the lithium secondary battery caused by the volume change of the cathode layer. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a method for manufacturing a cathode layer of a lithium secondary battery.
