NOVELTY - The lithium ion battery has a cathode that comprises a composite cathode active material and an anode that comprises an anode active material. The composite cathode active material comprises a first cathode active material and a second cathode active material. The second cathode active material is a compound with a spinel structure. The first cathode active material comprises a degree of lithiation and second cathode active material comprises a degree of lithiation. The degree of lithiation of second cathode active material is lower than the degree of lithiation of first cathode active material prior to first discharging or charging process of lithium ion battery. The anode active material is prelithiated before the first discharging or charging process of lithium ion battery. The first cathode active material is selected from the group that comprises layer oxides including over-lithiated oxides (OLO), compounds with olivine structure, compounds with spinel structure and combinations. USE - Lithium ion battery for use in motor vehicle or portable device such as smartphone, electric tool or power tool, tablet or wearable. ADVANTAGE - The lithium-ion battery has a higher specific energy and a higher current-carrying capacity. The lithium-ion battery is produced in cost-effective and simple manner. The prelithiation partially compensates the formation losses. The pre-charge step and formation step are eliminated during the manufacturing process, which shortens the production time. The power consumption in production is reduced. The compounds with a spinel structure are very stable, which increases the intrinsic safety of the lithium-ion battery.
