NOVELTY - Preparing graphene sponge comprises (i) dissolving chitosan in acetic acid having a concentration of 2% to obtain chitosan acetic acid solution having a concentration of 3-5%, (ii) washing the sponge three times with ethanol and deionized water, drying to constant weight, immersing in chitosan acetic acid solution, removing out and drying, (iii) adding graphene oxide into deionized water, ultrasonically for 2-3 hours to obtain aqueous solution of graphene oxide, immersing the dried sponge in step (ii) in aqueous solution of graphene oxide, removing and drying, (iv) immersing the dried sponge of step (iii) in a sodium borohydride solution, reducing under water bath conditions and removing, (v) adding trishydroxymethyl aminomethane into n-hexane to obtain 1-2 vol.% tris-hydroxymethyl aminomethane solution, immersing the dried sponge in step (iv) in tris-hydroxymethyl aminomethane solution for 2-3 hours, removing and then drying to obtain final product. USE - The graphene sponge is useful for separating oil from water (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The graphene sponge: has excellent oil absorbing performance, oil-water separation effect and high mechanical intensity of the sponge.
