NOVELTY - A capacitor-assisted electrochemical cell comprises at least two electrodes (E1) comprising one or more positive electroactive material layers arranged in electrical communication with a positive current collector, at least one electrode (E2) comprising one or more negative electroactive material layers (N1) arranged in electrical communication with negative current collector (C1), and at least one composite electrode comprising one or more negative electroactive material layers (N2) arranged in electrical communication with negative current collector (C2). The negative electroactive material layers (N2) comprise negative electroactive particles (200) comprising one or more of a carbonaceous material and metal oxide. The negative electroactive particles comprises pores (210) and sulfur-additive particles (220) arranged in the pores. USE - Capacitor-assisted electrochemical cell e.g. capacitor-assisted batteries used in automotive applications, motorcycles, boats and consumer electronic devices. ADVANTAGE - The capacitor-assisted electrochemical cell contains composite electrode with enhanced energy density of the capacitor-assisted battery.
