NOVELTY - An apparatus comprises main pump which pumps fluid which is suspension of solid particles of bulk laminar material at greater than or equal to 1 MPa, and core component (10) consisting of fluid conduit (12) having principal axis which conveys fluid and is arranged to direct fluid at pressure against the conduit, impact head (16) which has impact face perpendicular to principal axis in which impact head and conduit are arranged so that annular gap (20) is 1-500 mu m, and impact head surround (26) which extends region in which fluid is constrained before exiting core component. USE - An apparatus for production of graphene and exfoliation of laminar material to produce atomic scale laminar material (all claimed). Uses include but not limited to composites, coatings, thermal management and electronic devices. ADVANTAGE - Apparatus has electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and barrier and mechanical strength. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An apparatus comprises main pump which pumps fluid which is suspension of solid particles of bulk laminar material at greater than or equal to 1 MPa, and core component (10) consisting of fluid conduit (12) having principal axis which conveys fluid and is arranged to direct fluid at pressure against the conduit, impact head (16) which has impact face perpendicular to principal axis in which impact head and conduit are arranged so that annular gap (20) is 1-500 mu m, and impact head surround (26) which extends region in which fluid is constrained before exiting core component in which impact head is symmetrical allowing rotation of head. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) exfoliation of laminar material to produce atomic scale laminar material which involves providing apparatus and passing suspension of laminar material in liquid through apparatus at greater than or equal to 1 MPa; and (2) use of apparatus.
