NOVELTY - Method of forming conformal graphene-encapsulated material involves coating battery electrode material with metal catalyst to form metal catalyst-coated battery electrode material, growing graphene on metal catalyst-coated battery electrode material to form graphene cage encapsulating the metal catalyst-coated battery electrode material, and partially removing the metal catalyst to form void inside the graphene cage. USE - Method of forming conformal graphene-encapsulated material for electrode used for battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - Excellent cycle life and battery performance can be achieved, and electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and chemical stability of graphene-encapsulated material can be improved. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) conformal graphene-encapsulated material comprising graphene cage defining an internal volume, and battery electrode material disposed within the internal volume, in which battery electrode material occupies less than or equal to 100% of internal volume to define void; (2) battery electrode comprising conformal graphene-encapsulated material; and (3) battery comprising anode, cathode, and electrolyte disposed between the anode and the cathode, in which anode and/or cathode includes conformal graphene-encapsulated material.
