ADVANTAGE - The bioelectrochemical system efficiently provides graphene oxide under ambient conditions. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A bioelectrochemical system has a biochemical reactor having at least one graphite containing anode (A), at least one cathode comprising a conductive material, at least one transmission line which connecting a load between the graphite containing anode(s) and cathode(s), at least one direct current electricity source which is connected to the transmission line(s), at least one microbial population which is capable of interacting with graphite containing anode and generating graphene oxide, and a graphene oxide collector. The graphene oxide collector is capable of collecting graphene oxide from the biochemical reactor. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for bioelectrochemical method for producing graphene oxide, which involves providing bioelectrochemical system, interacting the graphite containing anode with the microbial species (15) resulting in production of graphene oxide, carbon dioxide (18) and electrons, transferring electrons from the anode to the cathode via transmission line, microbiologically reducing protons and carbon dioxide at cathode resulting in production of hydrogen (16) and organic compounds (17), and collecting graphene oxide from the biochemical reactor. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a schematic view of the bioelectrochemical system.
