NOVELTY - A bismuth oxide photocatalyst is prepared by solvent thermal method using bismuth salt including bismuth oxybromochloride (i), bismuth oxyiodochloride (ii), bismuth oxyiodobromide (iii) or bismuth oxyiodide (iv), dissolved in mixed solvent of ethylene glycol and glacial acetic acid, and halide salt dissolved in mixed solvent of anhydrous ethanol and deionized water. USE - Bismuth oxide photocatalyst is used for preparing graphene-bismuth oxide composite photocatalyst (all claimed) used for degrading organic pollutants. ADVANTAGE - The bismuth oxide photocatalyst has excellent activity, and is capable of efficiently degrading organic pollutants under visible light. The bismuth oxide photocatalyst is prepared by simple, economical and environmentally-friendly one-step process. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A bismuth oxide photocatalyst is prepared by solvent thermal method using bismuth salt including bismuth oxybromochloride of formula: BiOCl1-mBrm (i), bismuth oxyiodochloride of formula: BiOCl1-mIm (ii), bismuth oxyiodobromide of formula: BiOBr1-mIm (iii) or bismuth oxyiodide of formula: BiOC1aBrbI1-a-b (iv), dissolved in mixed solvent of ethylene glycol and glacial acetic acid, and halide salt dissolved in mixed solvent of anhydrous ethanol and deionized water. m=0-1; a,b=more than 0 and less than 1;and or a+b=less than 1. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) graphene-bismuth oxide composite photocatalyst, which contains the photocatalyst and graphene in a ratio of 0.5-5; (2) preparation of BiOXs photocatalyst; and (3) preparation of graphene-bismuth oxide composite photocatalyst.
