NOVELTY - The method involves providing an electrode layer which is provided with an active material mounted over a foil. A series of flags are formed in the foil to form a flagged electrode. The flagged electrode is winded to form an electrode roll comprises a series of rolled flags. The rolled flags are electrically connected to a current collector to form an energy storage device. The folding is performed by a deflector, roller, scoring spool, or combination of main portion. The folded flags are wound a flag management device moves the folded flags into a substantially interleaved configuration. The flag management device comprises a diverter, wheel, or air nozzle. The electrode layer comprises a first section used to form the electrode roll and a second section. The main portion comprises cutting the first and second sections apart. The rolled flags of the electrode roll is inspected. USE - Method for preparing tables energy storage device. ADVANTAGE - The method enables reducing ohmic resistance with distance when current travels all the way along the cathode or anode to the tab and out of the cell. The method ensures that the tabs are additional components, add additional thickness to the device and must be rolled into the jelly roll, thus reducing costs and present manufacturing challenges.
