NOVELTY - Forming a polymer composite comprising polymers and graphene quantum dots, comprises: mixing a polymer component with graphene quantum dots. The polymer component comprises polymers and/or polymer precursors. USE - The method is useful for forming a polymer composite, which is useful in LEDs (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method provides the polymer composite, which: is fluorescent; has a fluorescence intensity unit of 1000-900000 arbitrary units; is optically transparent; has an optical transparency of 30-99% (all claimed); exhibits improved mechanical and chemical stability, biodegradability, and photoluminescent properties; can be prepared in scalable, simple, cost-effective and environmentally friendly manner; and utilizes the graphene quantum dots, which are non-toxic and exhibit high quantum yield and solubility.
