NOVELTY - Functionalizing pyridine on graphene comprises (1) mixing graphene oxide dispersion with aqueous ammonia, and performing hydrothermal reaction, (2) washing the hydrothermal product obtained in step (1), carrying out an activation reaction with elemental halogen under alkaline conditions, and (3) washing the product obtained after activation in step (2), reacting with a carbonyl compound in a solvent, filtering the resulting product, washing and drying to obtain pyridine-functionalized graphene, where the general structure of carbonyl compounds is R-C(=O)-CH2-R', where R and R' are independently hydrogen atom, alkyl group, cycloalkyl group, aryl group or group containing hetero atom. USE - The pyridine functionalized graphene is useful in fuel cells, catalysis, and sensor. ADVANTAGE - The method: provides new way for preparing a highly active ORR catalyst. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for pyridine functionalized graphene material, prepared by above method.
