NOVELTY - Preparing graphene reinforced copper matrix composite involves oxidizing graphene by mixing 1 g of graphite powder with 1 g of sodium nitrate and 46 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid in conical flask taken in ice water bath. The mixture is stirred for 20 minutes followed by the addition of 6 g of potassium permanganate with stirring for 40 minutes to obtain a green-purple mixed solution which is incubated at 30-40 degrees C for 1 hour followed by the addition of 40 ml of distilled water. The solution mixture is heated to 85-95 degrees C and again incubated at room temperature for 30 minutes. USE - Method for preparing graphene reinforced copper matrix composite (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method enables to prepare graphene reinforced copper matrix composite in simple and efficient manner. The product has good dispersibility. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing graphene reinforced copper matrix composite involves oxidizing graphene by mixing 1 g of graphite powder with 1 g of sodium nitrate and 46 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid in conical flask taken in ice water bath. The mixture is stirred for 20 minutes followed by the addition of 6 g of potassium permanganate with stirring for 40 minutes to obtain a green-purple mixed solution which is incubated at 30-40 degrees C for 1 hour followed by the addition of 40 ml of distilled water. The solution mixture is heated to 85-95 degrees C and again incubated at room temperature for 30 minutes to obtain a brown mixture. The brown mixture is diluted with 100 ml of distilled water and 6 ml of hydrogen peroxide at room temperature to obtain a bright yellow mixture, which is then washed repeatedly with 3% hydrochloric acid solution and distilled water to obtain oxidized graphene which is mixed with 100 g of copper powder and 40 ml of anhydrous ethanol. The mixture is stirred for 1 hour at room temperature and ultrasonicated for 30 minutes at room temperature to obtain aqueous dispersion of the graphene oxide and copper powder which is added to 500 ml polytetrafluoroethylene in ball milling tank and ball-milled for 1-7 hours using stainless steel ball to obtain a slurry which is mixed with 1 wt.% if stearic acid, filtered and dried in vacuum for 24 hours at 80 degrees C to obtain graphene-copper composite powder. The composite powder is poured into a mold made of graphite, sintered under vacuum pressure of 25 MPa and at 850 degrees C for 1 hour to obtain a graphene reinforced copper matrix composite material. The graphite mold surface is coated with boron nitride impermeable layer.
