ADVANTAGE - The electrode is capable of maintaining excellent electrode characteristics such as high conductivity for a long period of time. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An electrode (26) comprises a laminate of a pi -electron conjugated compound film (23) and a conductive film (22) which contains particles (p1) of a layered material containing one or several layers (l1). The layers (l1) contain a layer metal-based component of formula (I): MmXn, where M is at least one metal of Group 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, X is a carbon atom, a nitrogen atom, or their combination, n is 1-4, and m is less than 5 which is more than the value of n, and a modifier or terminal (T) existing on a surface of the layer metal-based component, where (T) is at least one selected from a hydroxyl group, a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom, an oxygen atom, and a hydrogen atom. The pi -electron conjugated compound film contains a pi -electron conjugated compound containing at least one selected from an aromatic ring, a heteroaromatic ring, a carbon-carbon double bond, a carbon-carbon triple bond, and a carbon-phosphorus double bond. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of the electrode, which involves (i) preparing a precursor (I) of a conductive film, (ii) removing at least a portion of atoms from the precursor by using an etching liquid, (iii) washing a intermediate (i1) obtained in the step (ii) with water, (iv) performing an intercalation comprising mixing a intermediate (i2) obtained in the step (iii) with a compound for inter-layer insertion of the intermediate (i2), (v) stirring a intermediate (i3) obtained in the step (iv) in a liquid, (vi) washing a intermediate (i4) obtained in the step (v) with water to obtain particles of a layered material, (vii) forming a conductive film comprising the particles of the layered material on a substrate, and (viii) forming pi -electron conjugated compound film on the conductive film.
