USE - Composite thin layer is used for removing organic pollutants. ADVANTAGE - The composite thin layer has excellent photocatalytic self-cleaning property. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A composite thin layer comprises two layers comprises a layer (a) comprising zinc oxide and a zinc oxide-graphene oxide composite layer (b). The composite thin layer is prepared by (i) preparing a precursor solution by dissolving zinc acetate dihydrate in a solvent comprising water and ethanol in a ratio of 1:1 and adding 1 vol.% acetylacetone, (ii) spraying the precursor solution having a concentration of 0.15 M onto a glass substrate heated at 250 degrees C at a carrier gas pressure of 1.2 bar up to 10 deposition sequences with an interval of 20-60 seconds between two consecutive sequences to deposit layer (a) on the glass substrate, (iii) heat-treating the layer (a) at 450 degrees C for up to 5 hours in order to remove by-products and to increase crystallinity of the layer (a), (iv) preparing a zinc oxide-graphene oxide composite sol by mixing 0.5-3 %mass two-dimensional carbon-nanostructured graphene oxide in the form of aqueous dispersion comprising 30 mg/L zinc acetate dihydrate, 25 parts mass isopropanol and 0.75 part mass monoethanolamine stabilizer and magnetically-stirring for 1 hour, (v) spraying the zinc oxide-graphene oxide composite sol over the layer (a) heated at a temperature of 65-100 degrees C up to 15-20 deposition sequences with an interval of 20-90 seconds between two consecutive sequences to deposit layer (b) on the layer (a), and (vi) heat-treating the layer (b) at a temperature of 150 degrees C for 2 hours.
