INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: 1,4-diphenylbenzene compound of formula (A1) as graphene nanoribbon precursor; production of graphene nanoribbon, which involves polymerizing the compound (A1); and an electronic device, which comprises the graphene nanoribbon, and a pair of electrodes provided in contact with the graphene nanoribbon. a=1 or 3; b=2 or more; X=F, Cl, Br or I;and Y'=H or CH .
