NOVELTY - The mirror has a substrate that is provided with a surface exhibiting a curvature operable to focus an incident beam onto a focal plane. A graphene layer e.g. monolayer of graphene is provided to conformally adhere to the substrate and operated to protect the substrate surface from degradation due to the incident beam and an ambient environment. The substrate is provided with a thin film of a transition metal deposited on a substrate form and with fused silica form. The incident beam is a beam of helium and a beam of hydrogen. USE - Mirror such as graphene mirror. ADVANTAGE - The single-crystal domains can be obtained efficiently and reproducibly in quantities sufficient for large-scale fabrication. The formation of graphene domains can be obtained with uniform thicknesses and length scales sufficient for practical applications remains the challenge. The grain structure at the flat surface can correspond to the gold coating needed to reduce charging effects during milling. The graphene monolayer can act as the inert protective coating efficient in preventing the reaction of the surface with ambient gases. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a cross-sectional view of the preferential carpet-like expansion of the graphene sheet across downhill steps with suppression of growth in the uphill direction.
