NOVELTY - Heat release foam (100), comprises: a polymer foam body (110) defining at least one outer surface disposed around an intermediate portion; and a layer including graphene flakes (112) located on the outer surfaces, where the intermediate portion (116) is free of graphene flakes. USE - The foam is useful for train seats, commercial aerospace seats, and automotive panels. ADVANTAGE - The foam provides low heat release properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) making (M1) a heat release foam, comprising applying many graphene flakes onto at least one molding surface of a mold, depositing an uncured polyurethane foam in the mold, and curing the polyurethane foam in the mold; (2) composite structure, comprising a first fiber layer having a first many fibers and a first polymer resin, and a core disposed on the first fiber layer, the core including a polymer foam body and a layer including graphene flakes, the polymer foam body defining at least one outer surface disposed around an intermediate portion, where the layer including graphene flakes is located on at least one of the outer surfaces, the intermediate portion is free of graphene flakes; (3) making (M2) a heat release controlled composite structure, comprising forming a lay-up including a first fiber layer disposed on a core, the first fiber layer having a first many fibers and a first polymer resin on it, and the core including a polymer foam body and a layer including graphene flakes, pressing the lay-up in a mold, and at least partially curing the polymer resin to form a composite part; (4) composite laminate structure, comprising a first fiber layer including a first many fiber and a first polymer resin on it, a second fiber layer including a second many fibers and a second polymer resin on it, an outer polymer layer disposed on the first fiber layer, the outer polymer layer including an outer polymer resin having many graphene flakes disposed in it; (5) making (M3) a heat release controlled composite structure, comprising forming a lay-up including a first fiber layer having a first many fibers and a first polymer resin on it, a second fiber layer disposed under the first fiber layer, the second fiber layer having a second many fibers and a second polymer resin on it, and an outer polymer layer disposed on the first fiber layer, the outer polymer layer having an outer polymer resin including many graphene flakes in it, pressing the lay-up in a mold, and at least partially curing the lay-up to form a composite part; and (6) heat release controlled structure comprising at least one material having graphene flakes on an outer surface and being free of graphene flakes on a portion thereof interior to the outer surface.
