NOVELTY - Zinc cobaltate/graphene composite cathode material comprises three-dimensional graphene network and graded cobalt oxide particles embedded in three-dimensional graphene network, where graded zinc cobaltate particles are stacked by plurality of zinc cobalt oxide nanosheets grown on the surface of graphene, and zinc cobalt oxide nanosheets consist of numerous small particle size cobalt oxide nanoparticles. USE - The cathode material is useful in lithium ion battery (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The cathode material: has high specific capacity and cycle stability, excellent magnification performance and high current density charge and discharge cycle performance; and solves problems of poor conductivity of pure zinc cobaltate and poor cycle stability caused by volume expansion. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparation of zinc cobaltate/graphene composite cathode material comprising mixing aqueous solution containing soluble zinc salt, soluble cobalt salt and ammonium bicarbonate with graphene solution to form homogeneous mixed solution, reacting mixed solution at 160-200 degrees C for 10-20 hours, washing obtained solid product, drying and calcining to obtain zinc cobalt oxide/graphene composite cathode material; and (2) lithium ion battery comprising zinc cobaltate/graphene composite cathode material.
