NOVELTY - An antimicrobial membrane (100) comprises support and composite (110) containing graphene oxide compound and crosslinker, where composite coats the support. The membrane precludes the growth of microbes as determined by having an antibacterial effectiveness of greater than or equal to 2; and the crosslinker comprises polyvinyl alcohol, biopolymer, and/or acrylamide copolymer. USE - An antimicrobial membrane for preventing microbial growth (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The graphene oxide polymeric membrane may reduce the presence of microbes. A material, e.g. silica, may be included in the antimicrobial membrane to increase or improve the interaction membrane has with the working fluid. The added material or spacer material may improve the flux or movement of the working fluid over or through membrane. The added material creates space or volume within the antimicrobial membrane and creates or increases the roughness or irregularity of the surface of the antimicrobial membrane. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for prevention of microbial growth which involves providing the membrane and exposing the membrane to a working fluid containing microbes, where the membrane precludes microbial growth as a result of exposure to the working fluid as determined by having an antibacterial effectiveness of greater than or equal to 2.
