NOVELTY - A combined production-functionalization process for making chemically functionalized nano graphene material, involves dispersing the pre-intercalated, oxidized or halogenated graphite material and an azide or bi-radical compound in liquid medium to form a suspension; and subjecting the suspension to ultrasonication with ultrasonic waves of a desired intensity for a length of time sufficient to produce nano graphene platelets and to enable a chemical reaction to occur between the nano graphene platelets and the azide or bi-radical compound to form the functionalized nano graphene material. USE - For producing chemically functionalized nano graphene material (claimed) which is used as a nano-filler for specific polymer matrix. ADVANTAGE - The process is strikingly simple and elegant process; and provides chemically functionalized nano graphene material having improved solubility and dispersibility in matrix material, or having enhanced interfacial bonding between nano graphenes and a matrix material in composition.
