NOVELTY - Synthesizing diethyl oxalate comprises (i) placing oxalic acid, ethanol, toluene and catalytic adsorption solid material into the reactor and mixing, (ii) gradually heating the reactor from room temperature to 105-108°C, and maintaining the temperature constant until the dehydration is completed to obtain the esterification mixture, and (iii) heating the esterification mixture to 128-130°C, removing the toluene, then lowering the temperature to separate diethyl oxalate and catalytic adsorption solid material. USE - The method is useful for synthesizing diethyl oxalate. ADVANTAGE - The method: reduces the preparation difficulty of diethyl oxalate; simplifies the process; and improves the preparation efficiency.
