NOVELTY - Carbon material comprises carbon-containing layer having opening and solid material provided for covering the opening of carbon-containing layer, where the solid material comprises hole communicating with opening. USE - The carbon material is used as filter for desalination or deionization of solutions, and used for gas separation. ADVANTAGE - The carbon material has excellent mechanical and electrical properties, and suppresses the spread of cracks. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for preparing the carbon material, involving (a) reducing content of solvent from dispersion containing carbon-containing layer, metal complex and solvent, and forming composite having metal complex adhered to surface of carbon-containing layer, and (b) heat-treating the composite, and providing opening in carbon-containing layer in vicinity of metal atoms constituting metal complex, and removing at least portion of metal atoms constituting metal complex, and forming solid having hole portion communicating with opening.
