NOVELTY - Producing graphene fibers comprises e.g. providing single or multi-layer graphene or graphene oxide platelets based on graphene or graphene oxide; depositing a transition metal or a transition metal oxide on the graphene or graphene oxide platelets by means of a deposition process; spinning, preferably wet spinning or dry spinning of graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber by injecting a spinning solution in which the graphene or graphene oxide flakes obtained are dispersed; and treating, preferably subjecting graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber to reduction process atmosphere containing a reducing agent, preferably hydrogen, at a certain treatment temperature, where if a graphene oxide fiber is present, it is reduced to a graphene fiber, and the graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber is treated in such a way that the transition metal oxide is only partially reduced, and carrying out partial reduction or partial oxidation of finished graphene fiber containing transition metal oxide. USE - The graphene fiber is useful in yarn for electrical component of electrical conductor (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method can produce graphene fibers with a high electrical conductivity, and is economical. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Producing graphene fibers comprises (a) providing single or multi-layer graphene or graphene oxide platelets based on graphene or graphene oxide; (b) depositing a transition metal or a transition metal oxide on the graphene or graphene oxide platelets by means of a deposition process; (c) spinning, preferably wet spinning or dry spinning of graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber by injecting a spinning solution in which the graphene or graphene oxide flakes obtained from step (b) are dispersed; (d) treating, preferably subjecting graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber to reduction process atmosphere containing a reducing agent, preferably hydrogen, at a certain treatment temperature, where if a graphene oxide fiber is present, it is reduced to a graphene fiber, and the graphene fiber or graphene oxide fiber is treated in such a way that the transition metal oxide is only partially reduced in step (d) or that the transition metal is partially oxidized in a step following step (d), and carrying out partial reduction or partial oxidation of finished graphene fiber containing a certain proportion of transition metal oxide which is smaller than the proportion of the transition metal and which is in particular less than 10 wt.%. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) graphene fiber comprising graphene flakes, transition metal and transition metal oxide is contained between the graphene flakes and in the graphene flakes, in such a way that the transition metal improves the electrical conductivity mainly between the graphene flakes and the transition metal oxide improves the electrical conductivity primarily in the graphene flakes; (2) yarn comprising a multiple graphene fibers; (3) an electrical component, preferably semiconductor component, comprising graphene fiber or yarn; and (4) an electrical conductor comprising graphene fiber or yarn.
