NOVELTY - The invention relates to composite carbonic xerogels and to a process for obtaining the same, to be used in the electro-chemical converters field. According to the invention, the xerogels have a resistivity of 15...20.cm, a reticulated structure having the pore size of 5...50 nm, a rugosity of 300...350 nm, a density of 0.30...0.33 g/cm3, a water retention capacity of 15...20% and a specific area of 3000...800 m2/g. As claimed by the invention, the process consists in ultrasonically treating a mixture of resorcinol dissolved in deionized water with graphene oxide, for 15...20 min, after which formaldehyde is added under magnetic stirring, followed by the stages of gelling, ageing, drying and carbonizing at a temperature of 700...800 degrees C for 8...10 h, to result in a composite carbonic xerogel with graphene oxide.
