NOVELTY - Preparation of composite material electrode involves adding (i) graphite powder to concentrated sulfuric acid and stirring, slowly adding (ii) potassium permanganate and stirring, performing (iii) high-temperature stirring and continuously oxidizing the graphite powder, adding (iv) graphene oxide and manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate to isopropanol and ultrasonically-dispersing, heating (v) the dispersed mixed solution in a water bath, condensing, refluxing, dissolving potassium permanganate in deionized water and adding to the mixed solution, and reacting to obtain a mixed solution, filtering (vi), washing and drying in vacuum to obtain a manganese(II) oxide/graphene oxide supporting material, and mixing (vii) carbon material, acetylene black and polyvinylidene fluoride as binder, adding an appropriate amount of N-methylpyrrolidone, grinding uniformly to obtain an electrode material coating slurry, evenly coating on a graphite paper, drying in an oven, and vacuum-drying. USE - Preparation of composite material electrode used in capacitive deionization technology. ADVANTAGE - The method enables simple, convenient and economical preparation of composite material electrode having improved hydrophilicity, using abundant raw material resources. Graphene oxide has large specific surface area. Manganese(II) oxide is introduced between graphene sheets to form one-dimensional manganese(II) oxide nanowires, thereby effectively reducing stacking effect of the graphene sheets, improving electrochemical performance of the composite material electrode, and increasing the amount of desalination. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of composite material electrode involves adding (i) graphite powder to concentrated sulfuric acid and performing low-temperature stirring, slowly adding (ii) potassium permanganate and performing medium-temperature stirring, performing (iii) high-temperature stirring and continuously oxidizing the graphite powder, adding (iv) graphene oxide and manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate to isopropanol and ultrasonically-dispersing, heating (v) the dispersed mixed solution in a water bath, condensing, refluxing, dissolving potassium permanganate in deionized water and adding to the mixed solution, and reacting to obtain a mixed solution, filtering (vi) the mixed solution, washing the filtered cake with deionized water several times until the pH value of the filtrate is neutral, and drying in vacuum to obtain a black powder which is manganese(II) oxide/graphene oxide supporting material with a loading amount of 15% which can be adjusted by changing graphene addition amount, and mixing (vii) carbon material, acetylene black and polyvinylidene fluoride as binder, adding an appropriate amount of N-methylpyrrolidone, grinding uniformly to obtain an electrode material coating slurry, evenly coating on a graphite paper to an electrode area of 4 cmx 4 cm, drying in an oven, and vacuum-drying.
