NOVELTY - Synthesis of graphene, involves (i) forming a suspension comprising graphene oxide and/or graphite oxide, and a solvent, or forming a suspension comprising a product of oxidation of graphite, (ii) adding fresh tomato juice to the suspension, (iii) exfoliating the graphite and/or graphite oxide, (iv) allowing the suspension to be undisturbed at a temperature of 18-25 degrees C for a time period to reduce the graphene oxide and/or graphite oxide to graphene, and (v) separating the solids from the suspension. USE - Synthesis of graphene used in formation of polymer composites. Uses include but are not limited to sensors, nano-electronics, super capacitors, and batteries. ADVANTAGE - The method is simple, economical, safe, and environmentally-friendly.
