NOVELTY - Gold-palladium bimetallic catalyst comprises 0.25-5 wt.% gold oxide and 0.25-5 wt.% palladium oxide as active components, and remaining amount of graphene as a carrier. USE - The gold-palladium bimetallic catalyst is useful in selective oxidation of methanol to methyl formate (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has low reaction temperature, high catalytic activity, and high stability. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparing the catalyst, comprising (a) adding graphene carrier into water, stirring uniformly, adding a precipitator, adjusting the pH of the solution to 12-14, heating to 30-70 degrees C, stirring for 0.5-2 hours to obtain graphene suspension, (b) respectively preparing aqueous solution of gold and palladium, stirring uniformly to obtaining gold-palladium mixed solution, (c) continuously stirring the mixed solution into graphene suspension in a dropwise manner, and continuously stirring for 1-2 hours, and (d) pumping deionized water into the precipitate, washing until there is no chloride ions, drying at 100-120 degrees C for 12-20 hours, calcining under nitrogen atmosphere at 100-300 degrees C for 4-6 hours; and (2) use of gold-palladium bimetallic catalyst in selective oxidation of methanol to methyl formate, comprising passing 150-200 V air to the catalyst for 0.5-2 hours to carry out activation, transferring into normal pressure fixed bed, controlling reaction temperature to be 50-120 degrees C, controlling molar ratio of methanol and oxygen to be 1:1-10, and the reaction space velocity to be 3000- 20000 ml/g to obtain methyl formate.
