NOVELTY - A graphite-type carbon raw material (16) has a rhombohedral system graphite layer and a hexagonal system graphite layer in a ratio of 40% or more by X-ray diffraction method, as measured using peak intensity (P3) of (101) plane by X-ray diffraction of rhombohedral system graphite layer, and peak intensity (P4) of (101) plane by X-ray diffraction of hexagonal system graphite layer which satisfy specific relationship. USE - Graphite-type carbon raw material used as precursor of graphene used for forming graphene dispersions. Uses include but are not limited to additive with respect to polymer raw materials, such as resin, rubber, and coating material, additive with respect to heat-radiation sheet, electroconductive sheet, thermal radiation tape, and electroconductive tape, sintering metallurgy by adding to metal powder and sintering, additive with respect to ceramics, such as lithium oxide and nano clay, additive with respect to nonmetals, such as concrete, and non-polymer material, electrode agent of lithium ion batteries, electroconductive additive, discharge capacity improvement agent, charging-and-discharging-efficiency improvement agent, electrode of capacitor products, electrolyte solution, and electroconductive agent of electroconductive ink. ADVANTAGE - The graphite-type carbon raw material enables manufacture of graphene by a simple method. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - A graphite-type carbon raw material has a rhombohedral system graphite layer and a hexagonal system graphite layer in a ratio of 40% or more by X-ray diffraction method, as measured using peak intensity (P3) of (101) plane by X-ray diffraction of rhombohedral system graphite layer, and peak intensity (P4) of (101) plane by X-ray diffraction of hexagonal system graphite layer satisfying a relationship given by, P3/(P3+P4)x 100. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for manufacture of graphite-type carbon raw material, which involves processing natural graphite material (1) by physical force or electromagnetic waves in vacuum or air.
