NOVELTY - An antiviral mask (10) comprises body (12) having a breathable, microporous polymeric membrane (18) with a thickness of 30-500 microns; and securing strap (20) connected to the body and adapted to secure the antiviral mask in place over the nose and mouth of a user. USE - An antiviral mask. ADVANTAGE - The polymeric membranes include pores of a size to allow the passage of breathable air while providing virus filtering activity. The pores provide a confined space within the internal pore walls that promotes contact between any virus not captured on the upstream surface of the membrane and the proteolytic enzyme and/or virus denaturing agent carried on the internal wall, denaturing that virus. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for antiviral air filter comprising breathable, microporous polymeric membrane which has a thickness of 30-500 microns, a porosity of 20-80%, and an average pore size of 15-300 nm.
