NOVELTY - A graphene supported anode (100) comprises substrate (101) having planar substrate surface, vertically oriented graphene support arrangement (200) having basal nanosheets that are parallel to planar substrate surface and vertical nanosheets extending upwards from basal nanosheets, forming peaks (225) spaced apart by distance (D) of 50-400 nm, and silicon coating (300) which is on vertically oriented graphene support arrangement and covers peaks in which silicon layer has pre-expansion phase thickness (t) of 20-100 nm and expansion phase thickness (T). USE - A graphene supported anode for electrochemical energy storage e.g. battery. ADVANTAGE - Rate of charge/discharge, battery life and energy density are increased, and cost is reduced. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT LAIM is included for a manufacture of graphene supported anode (100) which involves providing copper substrate (101) having planar substrate surface, growing vertically oriented graphene support arrangement (200) on substrate, and coating vertically oriented graphene support arrangement with silicon.
