NOVELTY - The modified Hummers method for preparing graphene oxide involves: (1) mixing graphite and potassium permanganate in weight ratio of 1:(3-8), adding preheated concentrated sulfuric acid under stirring, and stirring the reaction at 45-86 degrees C for 2-40 minutes; (2) adding preheated additional acid to reaction system, and continuously stirring and reacting at the same temperature as in step (1) for 3-50 minutes to get reaction product; and (3) washing the precipitate in reaction product, and diluting with deionized water to obtain aqueous solution of graphene oxide. USE - The modified Hummers method is useful for preparing graphene oxide (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The modified Hummers method enables simple and rapid preparation of graphene oxide with high yield. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The modified Hummers method for preparing graphene oxide involves: (1) mixing graphite and potassium permanganate in weight ratio of 1:(3-8), adding preheated concentrated sulfuric acid under stirring, and stirring the reaction at 45-86 degrees C for 2-40 minutes, where the addition amount of concentrated sulfuric acid is 15-35 ml concentrated sulfuric acid per 1 g graphite, and the preheating temperature of concentrated sulfuric acid is 30-71 degrees C; (2) adding preheated additional acid to reaction system, and continuously stirring and reacting at the same temperature as in step (1) for 3-50 minutes to get reaction product; and (3) washing the precipitate in reaction product, and diluting with deionized water to obtain aqueous solution of graphene oxide. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for graphene oxide prepared by the above method.
