NOVELTY - A multi-layer prelithiated anode (10) comprises a conducting substrate (12) having a primary surface (s1) and a primary surface (s2), a lithium metal layer (14) deposited onto or attached to the primary surface (s1) of the conducting substrate, a graphitic layer (16) that covers the lithium metal layer (14), and a anode active layer (18) deposited on a primary surface of the graphitic layer (16). The anode active layer (18) contains an anode active material. USE - Multi-layer prelithiated anode for lithium-ion cell (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The multi-layer prelithiated anode has excellent structural integrity, and provides lithium-ion cell having excellent cycle characteristics. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: lithium-ion cell, which comprises the multi-layer prelithiated anode, a cathode, a separator that electrically isolates the anode from the cathode, and an electrolyte in ionic communication with the anode and the cathode; and manufacture of the multi-layer prelithiated anode.
