NOVELTY - Grafting graphene oxide by biphenyl thermotropic liquid crystal compound, comprises e.g. putting sodium hydroxide and absolute ethyl alcohol, magnetically stirring to dissolve the sodium hydroxide, adding 4,4'-hydroxyl-biphenyl diphenol, reacting, adding chlorine, continuing to react for 12-48 hours at 30-80 degrees C, after finishing the reaction, precipitating the product deposition using a large amount of water, decompressing and filtering using absolute ethyl alcohol, washing for 2-3 times and drying to obtain 4,4'-di(betahydroxyloxyethyl) biphenyl as white powder. USE - The method is useful for grafting graphene oxide by biphenyl thermotropic liquid crystal compound. ADVANTAGE - The method is simple and cost effective, and provides grafting graphene oxide with large-scale production in an environment friendly manner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Grafting graphene oxide by biphenyl thermotropic liquid crystal compound, comprises: (a) putting 1-10 g of sodium hydroxide and 10-100 ml of absolute ethyl alcohol, magnetically stirring till completely dissolving the sodium hydroxide, and then adding 1-15 g of 4,4'-hydroxyl-biphenyl diphenol, reacting for 10-60 minutes, adding 4-30 g of chlorine, continuing to react for 12-48 hours at 30-80 degrees C, after finishing the reaction, precipating the product deposition using a large amount of water, decompressing and filtering, using absolute ethyl alcohol to wash for 2-3 times and drying to obtain 4,4'-di(betahydroxyloxyethyl) biphenyl as white powder; (b) taking 0.5-2 g of sodium hydroxide and 5 ml of de-ionized water and stirring with magnetic force until sodium hydroxide completely dissolved; (c) putting 1-10 g of obtained 4,4'-di (betahydroxyloxyethyl) biphenyl dissolved in 10-50 ml of N,N-dimethyl formamide, and reacting the product obtained in step (a) for 1-5 hours at 70-120 degrees C, adding 5-15 g of epoxychloropropane and 0.01-0.05 g of tetrabutyl ammonium bromide, continuously reacting for 5-15 hours, where the reaction is finished using a large amount of water to obtain the precipitated product, decompressing and filtering using absolute ethyl alcohol and washing for 2-3 times and drying to obtain the milky white end group containing epoxy group of biphenyl liquid crystal compound; (d) 0.1-1 g of graphite oxide and 20-100 ml of N,N-dimethyl formamide, mixing, dispersing for 30-90 minutes under the ultrasonic environment to form uniformly dispersed graphene oxide mixed solution; (e) taking 5-30 ml of ultrasonic dispersed graphene oxide mixed solution in the three-neck flask with a stirrer, a thermometer and a condenser tube, adding 1-10 ml of thionyl chloride at 50-90 degrees C and reacting for 5-10 hours; (f) adding 2-20 g of biphenyl liquid crystal compound with 20-80 ml of N,N-dimethyl formamide, mixing the product obtained in step (e) to the mixture at 50-90 degrees C for 5-10 hours, after the reaction is finished, precipitating the product using a large amount of water, decompressing and filtering, using absolute ethyl alcohol to wash for 2-3 times and drying to obtain the grey product of epoxy group containing terminal group of the graphene oxide grafted by biphenyl thermotropic liquid crystal compound, where the graphite oxide is chemical pure crystalline flake graphite as raw material, and is prepared by using Hummers oxidation method, the sodium hydroxide, absolute ethyl alcohol, 4, 4'- beta -hydroxyl biphenyl diphenol, ethanol, de-ionized water, dimethyl de-ionized water, dimethyl formamide, epoxy chloropropane and tetrabutyl ammonium bromide are analytically pure.
