NOVELTY - Modified graphene oxide-based nano-additive is prepared by refluxing graphene oxide, thionyl chloride and N,N-dimethylformamide under argon atmosphere, removing excess thionyl chloride and solvent, reacting remaining solid and dry ethylene glycol, removing the solvent, washing and drying to obtain hydroxylated graphene oxide, adding dichloromethane and boron trifluoride diethyl etherate to hydroxylated graphene oxide under argon atmosphere, ultrasonically processing, adding 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyl-oxetane, stirring, quenching with ethanol, washing and drying. USE - Modified graphene oxide-based nano-additive is useful in lubricating oil (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The modified graphene oxide-based nano-additive are capable of forming stable dispersion in polyether, has excellent thermal stability at high temperatures of 100-175 degrees C, anti-friction property and wear resistance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Modified graphene oxide-based nano-additive is prepared by (a) refluxing graphene oxide, thionyl chloride and N,N-dimethylformamide under argon atmosphere at 60-90 degrees C for 20-24 hours, removing excess thionyl chloride and solvent, reacting remaining solid and dry ethylene glycol at 60-100 degrees C for 20-24 hours, removing the solvent, washing and drying to obtain hydroxylated graphene oxide, (b) adding dichloromethane and boron trifluoride diethyl etherate to hydroxylated graphene oxide under argon atmosphere, ultrasonically processing for 15-30 minutes, adding 3-ethyl-3-hydroxymethyl-oxetane, stirring under argon atmosphere at 20-30 degrees C for 40-50 hours, quenching reaction solution with ethanol, washing and drying to obtain poly(3-ethyl-(3-hydroxymethyl)oxetane)-modified graphene oxide (GO-PEHO), (c) adding GO-PEHO, chlorinated diphenyl phosphate and Lewis acid catalyst to toluene under argon atmosphere, stirring at 90-110 degrees for 12-15 hours, filtering to remove solvent, washing and drying to obtain polymer phosphate ester-modified graphene oxide. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for use of nano-additive in lubricating oil, which is prepared by adding 0.035-0.095 %mass polyether to polymer phosphate ester-modified graphene oxide.
