NOVELTY - Fibrillated active electrode material comprises 60-95% primary electrode active materials, 0-30% conductive percolator and 0.5-10% binder. USE - Fibrillated active electrode material for energy storage devices, supercapacitors and lithium ion batteries and energy conversion device such as fuel cell. ADVANTAGE - The fibrillated active electrode material improves overall performance of the device for instance, active electrode materials coated or deposited on current collector substrate used in electric double layer capacitors. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a method for preparing fibrillated active electrode material, which involves adding primary electrode active material in the processing equipment such as internal mixer to obtain a resultant mixture, fibrillating the mixture at room temperature or high temperature, drying the obtained fibrillated material, separating the fibrillated material in small pieces by sieving or by soaking in solvent followed by sonicating the solution for 2-60 minutes to obtain fibrillated electrode material; and (2) a method for making electrodes for energy storage devices, which involves treating the current collector substrate such as metal sheet or a metal foil or a metal mesh or metal foam or a carbon paper or graphite paper, coating the treated substrate with a conductive layer such as conductive ink, coating the conducting layer coated substrate with slurry of fibrillated active electrode material, drying electrode material coated substrate, compacting or densifying the coated fibrillated electrode material on the substrate to obtain the required thickness, slitting the electrode substrate to require width followed by fixing the current collector leads such as metal strip such as aluminum, nickel, or copper to the electrodes to obtain electrodes for energy storage device.
