USE - Preparation of superhydrophobic lipophilic graphene aerogel for use in oil and water separation applications. ADVANTAGE - The graphene aerogel has large adsorption capacity and high oil absorption rate. The graphene aerogel is conducive to the recovery of oil spills, and can be reused. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of superhydrophobic lipophilic graphene aerogel, involves (i) mixing 100 mg graphene oxide with 100 mL absolute ethanol in a three-necked flask, ultrasonically-dispersing evenly for 1 hour to obtain graphene oxide solution as a liquid medium, (ii) preparing two kinds of ammoniated silica sols with different average particle sizes by Stober method, (iii) mixing the ammoniated silica sol of different particle sizes with the graphene oxide solution, transferring the mixture to a 75 degrees C oil bath, and supplementing by magnetic stirring reaction for 8 hours, then cooling the dispersion to room temperature, rinsing with absolute ethanol and deionized water to obtain silica/graphene composite, (iv) dissolving silica/graphene composite in water at a concentration of 2 mg/mL, ultrasonically processing for 5 minutes, adding aqueous ammonia, adjusting the pH of the solution to 11, then transferring into a hydrothermal reactor, reacting at 180 degrees C for 24 hours, cooling and drying to obtain superhydrophobic lipophilic graphene aerogel.
