NOVELTY - The device has a substrate (105) with a first surface (107) and a second surface (109) defines a first channel (110), a second channel (115) and an outlet channel (120). A first graphene layer overlays the first surface of the substrate with an interior area of first channel, second channel and outlet channel. A second graphene layer overlays the first surface of substrate with open regions. The first graphene layer and second graphene layer defines an open volume in the first channel, second channel and outlet channel between first and second graphene layers. USE - Device for transmission electron microscopy cells for use with liquids. ADVANTAGE - The thicknesses of the walls of the microchannels that allow for fluid flow in a TEM limit the imaging resolution that is achieved using such devices. The viewport region is small so that the first graphene layer and the second graphene layer remain mechanically stable.
